THE EFFECT OF USING ONE-WORD SUMMARIES STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT AT STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2 TAMBANG

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading narrative text.The writer found that the students still had difficulties in comprehending the reading text especially in narrative text. This research aimed at finding out whether there is or not significant difference in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text between taught without using One-Word Summaries Strategy and taught by using it. In this case, the writer provided One-Word Summaries Strategy to help students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. This research was an experimental research.The technique of collecting data used by writer is test. Finally, based on the research findings, the writer concluded that there was a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension taught by using and without usingOne-Word Summaries Strategy. The writer found that sig (2 tailed) was 0.000 less than 0.05. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text between taught without and by using One-Word Summaries Strategy at the eleventh grade of State Senior High School 2 Tambang.
