THE INFLUENCE OF FREQUENCY OF WATCHING ENGLISH MOVIES AND STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 14 PEKANBARU

This research was correlational research with simple linear correlation design. The purpose of this research was to investigate the correlation between students’ frequency of watching English and their vocabulary mastery. The population of this research was the second grade students of State Senior High School 14 Pekanbaru which consisted of seven classes with the total population was 212 students. The respondents of this research were 31 students taken by using Simple Random Sampling technique. In collecting the data, questionnairewere used to measure students’ frequency of watching English movies and test was used to measure students’ vocabulary mastery.The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) and calculated by using SPSS 16.0 program version in order to find out whether there was a significant correlation between students’ frequency of watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the students’ frequency of watching English movies was categorized high with mean percentage 72.39%, the students’ vocabulary mastery was categorized good with the mean percentage 74.35%.
