The focus of the work presented in this thesis lay on improvements of the experimental techniques for the investigation of multiple scattering phenomena, and in particular the coherent backscattering cone of visible light. After an introduction in the theory behind the phenomenon of coherent backscattering and a presentation of the setups and the samples used for the investigations, two main experiments are reviewed. The first experiment, performed with a setup that measures the backscattered light intensity over an angular range of nearly 180°, had been found to apparently violate conservation of energy. However, we were able to reject this by carefully revising the experimental procedure and by comparing the results with an extended theory ...
