We review the results of Brownian Dynamics simulations of colloidal particles in external fields confined in channels. Super-paramagnetic Brownian particles are well suited two- dimensional model systems for a variety of problems on different length scales, ranging from pedestrian walking through a bottleneck to ions passing ion-channels in living cells. In such systems confinement into channels can have a great influence on the diffusion and transport properties. Especially we will discuss the crossover from single file diffusion in a narrow channel to the diffusion in the extended two-dimensional system.
