Numerical method in determining critical stress in granular material using algorithm for different loading paths is presented. The constitutive relationships of the hierarchical single surface (HISS) model were used to describe the granular material during deformation. Critical stresses under applied triaxial compression and extension obtained numerically were compared with published results for Leighton Buzzard Sand in experiments of conventional triaxial compression (CTC) and triaxial extension (TE).
