A Study of the Relationship Among the Mexican Presidential Election 2012, Twitter, and the Movement #Yosoy132

Social networks like twitter played a leading role in the emergence and development of the movement. This article analyzes the relationship among the presidential election, twitter, and the movement #Yosoy132. Throughout the presidential election campaign, the movement functioned as a principal actor along with the major candidates such as Enrique Peña Nieto and LopezObrador. This article notes that themovement # Yosoy132 encouraged three presidential candidates to getmore actively engaged in social networks, which can be confirmed in their increased Twitter accounts. But the movement left contrasting impacts on each candidates performances. While it affected negatively Enrique Peña Nietos campaign, its impact on his rival, Lopez Obrador was a positive one
