The purpose of this paper is to clarify syntactic and semantic properties of viewpoint subjuncts of English-a subdivision of English adverbials. Quirk et al. (1985) recently introduced the adverbial category of subjuncts that had formerly been subsumed under the adverbial category of adjuncts in Quirk et al. (1972). They furthermore proposed to divide the category of subjuncts into the two large groups: wide orientation and narrow orientation, both of which contain various adverbial categories of English.
