Objective: Reduced N-acetylaspartate levels in regions of the frontal cortex, including the anterior cingulate cortex, dorsolaterail prefrontal cortex, and thalamus, involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia suggest that brain metabolite abnormalities may be a marker of genetic vulnerability to schizophrenia.
