Singapore faces a problem of land shortages due to its size therefore measures has been made to increase land sizes though land reclamation. One major concern in it is that there is a great shortage of granular fill material. One way to overcome such a problem is to use non-granular materials like excavated soil, industrial wastes, or marine clay dredged from the sea for reclamation. The down side to these type non-granular types of fill materials is that they are usually soft and thus have to be treated before it can be used for reclamation. Presently, cement has been used to treat large quantity soil.
