Cheatsheet : the right way to learn

The pursuit of higher educational level and better grades has been ingrain in many, perpetrated by the “kiasu-ness” (fear of losing) of Singaporeans. Many believed that having a good education would eventually lead to a good job and a better life. As such, many students and parents try all ways and means to game the system and gain a competitive edge. Failure is not an option due to the high stakes involved. The process of learning and joy of learning seems to have taken a back seat. As we celebrated our 50th year of independence last year, the narrative of this county revolves around the rapid shift from a third world fishing port to a first-world cosmopolitan city we are today. Yet, as the country rapidly changes, the older mind-set and definitions of success is deeply rooted, despite the multiple changes made to the system. However, such a shift in mind set is important for the progress of our nation moving forward. How then, can we reconcile personal aspiration for educational “success” and embrace learning as process? The aim of my project is provide a platform to discuss about the societal view on learning and education in a light-hearted manner. Hopefully, this project will be able to strike a conversation and thus move us one step closer to squaring this circle.Bachelor of Fine Art
