Cooperation and competition in the quest for energy between China and India

49 p.As two rising developing countries in Asia, China and India are experiencing rapid economic development and also facing the challenges of energy scarcity due to the increasing domestic energy demand. Both of them have adopted their energy strategies in quest for energy around the world, which may cause an increasing worldwide concern on the possible competition between the two countries and its adverse impact on the global energy security. The interaction between them in the energy sphere has tended to be competitive. However, some cooperation has also been seen recently. The paper examines the current energy demand and supply problems and energy strategies of each country, analyzes the driving factors and hurdles of the cooperation from the domestic and international perspective, and the current situations of energy competition and cooperation, then tries to answer the following questions: why China and India choose to cooperate in the energy arena?
