Power-to-Gas (PtG) is a grid-scale energy storage technology that converts electricity into the gas fuel as an energy carrier. Specifically, it utilizes surplus renewable electricity to generate hydrogen from electrolysis with Solid Oxide Cell (SOC), and the hydrogen is then combined with CO2 through Sabatier process to form methane. The strong exothermicity of CO2 methanation remains one of the major challenges for the scale-up of the technology. This work aims to tackle the thermal management dilemma between the thermodynamic and the kinetic limitation at various conditions. Further, the economic model is built to estimate the feasibility of the large-scale deployment of the technology.Doctor of Philosoph
