High-resolution digital terrain models (DTMs) are essential and key component for topographic applications such as earth moving industry, flood modeling and etc. They are generated by LIght Detection and Ranging technology which is short for LIDAR technology. It is one of the latest optical remote sensing technologies used for measuring the distance from a laser which transmits pulses to some target. Usually, airborne LIDAR systems return a three-dimensional cloud of point measurements which gives irregular spacing. Measurements from unwanted features and objects such as trees, vehicles should be classified and removed so as to generate a DTM.
