This report develops the adaptive np chart and compares the effectiveness of a static attribute chart with the effectiveness of an adaptive attribute chart, in terms of detecting an out-of-control condition of a process. The distinctive feature of the adaptive chart is that by considering the current process status, the charting parameters can be varied accordingly, unlike the static chart that has fixed charting parameters. By optimising the charts, the adaptive chart usually outperforms the static chart based on the same fraction nonconforming value.Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering
