Assessment of various isotherms and kinetics equations for cooling and gas storage applications

Today, global warming is an alarming issue as it has already affected to the Earth. There are many policies made worldwide to help to reduce carbon emission from applications as well as processes. However, more need to be done if we do not want our future generation to be affected. The search for cleaner energy such as natural gas is gaining more attention but transportation remains a problem because of the limitations present in the method of transportation. Adsorption of methane is considered as an alternative method for storage. The use of adsorption chiller is also gaining popularity because it is environmentally friendly and cheaper. However, to fully make use of adsorption for gas storage and cooling applications we need to find out which adsorbent is better for both applications. In this report, adsorbent-adsorbate pairs for cooling applications such as i) Silica Gel RD + water, ii) Silica Gel (Type A) + water, iii) AQSOA-Z01 + water, iv) AQSOA-Z02 + water, v) AQSOA-Z05 + water are used in this report to determine which adsorbent-adsorbate pair is more suitable for cooling application and gas storage applications such as i) Maxsorb III + methane, ii) MIL 101 (Cr) + methane, iii) Sodium Doped MIL 101 (Cr) + methane, iv) HKUST + methane are used in this report to determine which pair is more suitable for the adsorption of methane in gas storage. By finding the uptake difference, the result shows that AQSOA-Z02 and Maxsorb III have a higher uptake for cooling and gas storage respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that these two adsorbents are suitable for applying in cooling and gas storage.Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering
