56 p.The rapid development of local-area wireless networks has fostered a growing interest in location-aware systems and services. While much research has focused on developing service architectures for location-aware systems, less attention has been paid to the fundamental problem of locating mobile users, especially in an indoor environment. An existing methodology is to use RF finger-printing for localization. However, this is computationally intensive, since a large training database is required, and is not conducive for a real-time system. Other techniques based on received signal strength (RSS) information have been proposed. It triangulates on the location by using the maximum RSS criterion.Master of Science (Signal Processing
