At the end of 20 century, the Chinese government initiated an ambitious economic development strategy for the western area of China. The strategy aims on speeding up the economic development of the western area and hence offers a unique opportunity for Sichuan, one of the western provinces, to catch up with the more advanced coastal provinces. By comparing the economic development between the coastal province Guangdong and Sichuan, this thesis tries to verify the strategic positioning for Sichuan economic development in China's overall western area development strategy.Master of Science (Managerial Economics
