Eversince the passing of the White Paper for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), concerns over the possible impacts of GST on the Singapore economy were raised. The areas of concern include the effect of GST on prices, savings and investment, income distribution, government revenue and administrative costs. The objective of this report is to study these areas of concern, with a focus on the impact of GST on the consumers, the government and the economy in general. In addition, the GST offsets and rebates in Singapore were also discussed with an attempt to evaluate their effectiveness in terms of the level of awareness, sufficiency and their applicability.BUSINES
