The detection of straight lines and other types of curves is a very important operation in digital image processing. This thesis deals with the tasks of straight line detection in an edge image using Hough transform, which belongs to the field of low level digital image processing. For the sake of robustness to the noise and discontinuity of curves, the Hough transform has been a classical algorithm to fulfil these tasks. However, the computational complexity and massive storage demand of standard Hough transform has been heavy workload of its applications. The main purpose of this thesis is to develop a modified algorithm of Hough transform to relieve its burden while maintaining its significant advantage of robustness.Master of Engineerin
