Infrared (IR) radiation is an electromagnetic radiation with wavelength ranging from 0.75 µm to 1,000 µm and photon energy from 1.24 meV to 1.7 eV. IR sensors can be generally categorized into either photon detectors or thermal detectors. Traditionally, IR detection was mainly employed in the fields of astronomy, military and surveillance using photon detectors. Thermal detectors (also called uncooled detectors) were comparatively less explored due to their unsatisfactory performance.
