In this paper, we will look into the design of virtual synchronous generator (VSG) which are controlled to mimic the characteristics of synchronous generator and the use of grid-controlled converter with virtual inertia which uses energy stored in dc-link capacitors for frequency support. The proposed control scheme involves two control loops, an inner voltage and current controller that is designed in z-domain which ensures system stability and voltage control, while an outer frequency and power controller that is in continuous s-domain, be consistent with current frequency regulation models.
