143 p.This report serves to provide a comparison of the financial system between Hong Kong and Singapore. Firstly, the two banking systems and financial markets are examined to conclude on their current competitive/complementary nature. Then the impact of 1997 on the future of Hong Kong's financial position and its consequential effects on Singapore are evaluated. This study shows that both centres are complementary in most areas. Moreover, the growth of one should not impede on that of the other even in the areas where they compete. In spite of this, the competition is likely to intensify with Hong Kong's positive outlook and Singapore's aggressive development of its financial sector.
