Unwed single mothers have faced countless of discrimination and deprivation in Singapore, and is because of the Government’s model of a nuclear family. However, by not having a father, does it really make the mother a ‘lesser’ mother? Is it not the role of the Government to help those that are in need? Through semi-structured interviews, a needs assessment is investigated, whether the Government should provide a less discriminated set of policies. By adopting the discourse of Asian values, this paper considers the complicated situation the Government is in.
