Retaining wall design is crucial for modern construction works that requires stabilization for modified terrain. The computation for the design of a retaining wall requires knowledge on soil parameters and the lateral earth pressure induced. The design of the retaining wall contains uncertainties caused by construction, site environment, human error, soil parameters etc. In Eurocode 7, these uncertainties are considered with the use of partial factors. On the other hand, reliability based design takes these uncertainties into the calculation and provide measurements of probability of failure in reliability index.
