During early embryogenesis, vasculature development is essential for the survival of the organism. Semaphorin3E-PlexinD1 (Sema3E-PlexinD1) signaling plays a role in blood vessel growth and patterning. One of its function is to inhibit Notch signaling in stalk cells during tip cell selection in angiogenesis. The ability of Sema3E-PlexinD1 signaling in downregulating Notch signaling leads us to hypothesize that Sema3E-PlexinD1 signaling affects arteriovenous cell fate determination in endothelial cells, through the inhibition of Notch signaling pathway.
