Based on sighting reports of a female Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros Rhinoceros) (FRH) in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (BTNR), Singapore, a study was undertaken by the Singapore Avian Conservation Project to pave the way towards the species’ reintroduction. In this study, the FRH and its partner in the wild, a female Great Hornbill (Buceros Bicornis) (FGH), were observed, lured, trapped and captured, using an Artificial Nest (AN), and an aviary containing a male RH (MRH). A GPS unit was attached to the FRH before its eventual release, while the FGH was transferred to the Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.
