The demand for bandwidth is increasing rapidly in the world today. Wavelength-Division-Multiplexed-Passive-Optical-Networks (WDM-PONs) serve as a good solution to solve this problem. WDM-PON has many advantages compared to the Time-Division-Multiplexing networks such as larger capacity, better security and also point-to-point connectivity. The cost of external lasers are very expensive and thus the development of cost-saving colorless transmitters for WDM-PON is very important. For this project, reflective semiconductor optical amplifier is chosen as the transmitter for the WDM-PON system.
