In the last decade or so, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has emerged as a standard tool for mapping activation patterns in the human brain. It is a highly interdisciplinary field involving neuroscientists, clinicians, physicists, mathematicians, and engineers. The experiments performed by the neuroscientists generate multitude of data which are subsequently analyzed using various analysis techniques. However, data obtained from the magnetic resonance (MR) scanners are confounded by a number of artifacts that are needed to be accounted for prior to the analysis of the data.
