In writing this essay, I have chosen the genre of magical realism precisely because of its propensity to blur binaries, thus enabling it as a suitable medium for which to enter my discussion about food and identity. To illustrate this, I will be using the texts Like Water for Chocolate and One Hundred Years of Solitude, which explores different facets of Latin American history in terms of both colonial and gender issues.Bachelor of Art
