This thesis outlines the development and implementation of a diagnostic system of non-stationary Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) sounds using reduced interference time-frequency distribution. The development of this diagnostic system is an effort to provide an objective and cost effective approach to aid clinical practitioners in the diagnosis or screening of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). This proposed diagnostic system comprises a knowledge database based on current clinical practices in the examination of TMD and a recently developed technique using electronic recording of TMJ sounds.
