ANALISIS LAPIS MAC IEEE 802.11b WLAN OVER FIBER MENGGUNAKAN NS-2

ABSTRAKSI: The general WLAN is a office with access point which place on strategic area in building around. All access point to connect together with used cable. WLAN configuration with a medium fiber optic cable called WLAN over fibre. The consequence different medium usage cause WLAN have different character with LAN. So that need the special sublayer Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol has defines IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. MAC Wireless LAN, DCF is a fundamental mode to support delivery services in a Basic Service Set (BSS). The DCF defines a basic access mechanism for packet transmission is Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) and Request to Send / Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) as optional mechanism.In this final project, the WLAN over fibre network is designed by using NS-2 (Network Simulator) to simulate and analyze the throughput. The mechanism is use are DCF basic mechanism and RTS/CTS mechanism.As we can see from the result and analyze, the highest throughput is in WLAN network with biggest data packet on it, that 6000 byte. The smallest throughput of WLAN over fibre network is 0,1509 Mbps for fibre length 800 m and also for the smallest data packet. The throughput increase when we use the RTS/CTS mechanism for the biggest data packet. It is higher about 18,5% than the throughput of basic mechanismKata Kunci : Basic, MAC, Over fiber, RTS/CTS, Throughput.ABSTRACT: Konfigurasi umum untuk WLAN adalah sebuah ruangan kantor dengan access point yang ditempatkan strategis di sekitar bangunan. Semua access point dihubungkan bersama-sama dengan menggunakan kabel. Konfigurasi WLAN dengan menggunakan medium kabel serat optik disebut WLAN over fiber. Akibat pemakaian media yang berbeda maka WLAN memiliki sifat teknis yang berbeda pula dengan jaringan LAN. Sehingga untuk itu diperlukan protokol Medium Access Control (MAC) sublayer khusus yang telah didefinisikan oleh IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. Lapisan MAC Wireless LAN, Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) adalah mode fundamental untuk mendukung delivery service pada sebuah Basic Service Set (BSS). DCF mendefinisikan mekanisme basic access untuk transmisi paket yaitu Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) dan mekanisme optional Request to Send / Clear to Send (RTS/CTS).Dalam Tugas Akhir ini dilakukan simulasi dan analisis throughput untuk jaringan WLAN over fiber dengan menggunakan NS-2 (Network Simulator). Adapun mekanisme yang digunakan adalah mekanisme DCF basic dan mekanisme RTS/CTS.Dari hasil pengujian dan analisis dapat dilihat bahwa mekanisme DCF basic throughput tertinggi terdapat pada jaringan WLAN saat kondisi paket data terbesar yaitu 6000 byte. Untuk jaringan WLAN over fiber throughput terkecil terdapat pada kondisi penggunaan serat optik 800 m yaitu 0,1509 Mbps dan saat paket data terkecil. Saat penggunaan mekanisme RTS/CTS throughput mengalami kenaikan untuk jumlah paket data yang lebih besar dengan rata-rata 18,5% dari throughput mekanisme basic.
