DESAIN ALGORITMA DAN EVALUASI PERFORMANSI POWER CONTROL BERBASIS CLUSTERING PADA JARINGAN WIRELESS AD HOC (ALGORITHM DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF CLUSTERING BASED POWER CONTROL AT WIRELESS AD HOC NETWORK)

ABSTRAKSI: Level daya pancar suatu perangkat wireless berpengaruh terhadap kualitas sinyal yang diterima pada physical layer, jumlah node tetangga yang dapat menerima paket pada network layer dan level interferensi yang dapat mengakibatkan kongesti pada transport layer. Level daya pancar juga merupakan penentu ukuran performansi suatu sistem, misalnya throughput, delay dan konsumsi energi pada suatu perangkat. Power control merupakan mekanisme pengaturan level daya pancar suatu perangkat wireless. power control mempengaruhi beberapa lapisan OSI (Open System Interconnection) suatu jaringan telekomunikasi antara lain physical layer, data link layer, network layer, dan transport layer. Permasalahan yang perlu diperhatikan adalah menentukan dimanakah masalah power control tersebut harus ditempatkan pada arsitektur sistem jaringan wireless ad hoc sehingga diperoleh power level yang tepat dengan tidak mengabaikan masalah performansi. Penelitian yang telah dilakukan berusaha mengatasi permasalahan power control pada MAC (Medium Access Control) atau data link layer [10], [11]. Strategi yang digunakan adalah dengan menyesuaikan level daya pancar semua paket sehingga SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) yang diterima masih di atas threshold yang telah ditetapkan atau hanya cukup untuk melakukan dekode paket. Strategi diatas diklaim telah mampu meminimalkan inteferensi dan menghemat energi perangkat wireless ad hoc. Satu hal yang harus diperhatikan adalah bahwa pada jaringan wireless ad hoc, sisi penerima yang diinginkan ditentukan oleh network layer, misalnya dengan menggunakan routing table, dan tidak ditentukan oleh MAC layer. Penempatan power control pada MAC layer tidak memberikan kesempatan pada routing protocol untuk menentukan hop berikutnya yang optimal, dengan kata lain pendekatan MAC power control hanya mampu melakukan optimasi lokal sedangkan sedangkan network layer power control diharapkan mampu melakukan optimasi secara global.Kata Kunci : power control , Threshold, Medium Access Control, Jaringan Ad HocABSTRACT: The transmit power level affects signal quality and thus impacts the physical layer, determines the neighboring nodes that can hear the packet and thus the network layer, affects interference which causes congestion and thus affects the transport layer. It is also key to several performance measures such as throughput, delay and energy consumption. Power control is a mechanism that determine wireless device\u27s transmit power level. It effects multiple OSI layer on the network i.e., physical layer, data link layer, network layer, and transport layer.The challenge is to determine where in the architecture the power control problem is to be situated, to determine the appropriate power level by studying its impact on several performance issues, to provide a solution which deals properly with the multiple effects of transmit power control. Numerous approaches (i.e., [11], [12]) attempt to solve the power control problem at the MAC (Medium Access Control) layer. The strategy is to adjust the transmit power level of every packet such that the SNR at the intended receiver is above the threshold or just enough for decoding the packet. The claim is that this minimizes interference as well as saves energy at the wireless ad hoc network. One point to note though is that the intended receiver is determined by the network layer, i.e., by the routing table entry, and not by the MAC layer. The job of the MAC layer is only to transmit the packet to the receiver specified by the higher layers. Thus, placing power control at the MAC layer does not give the routing protocol the opportunity to determine the optimal next hop or the intended receiver. In other words, the MAC approach to power control only does a local optimization whereas network layer power control is hoped for a global optimization.Keyword: power control , Threshold, Medium Access Control, Ad Hoc Network
