During their missions, helicopters may fly near to high power radar and radio transmitters. These emissions can disturb electronic systems necessary to safety, especially during take-off and landing. Some regulatory requirements need to be considered during the development of new aircraft in order to be able to certify them. Part of the design studies are based on 2D and 3D numerical simulations to define the level of electromagnetic protection needed. Tests on real aircraft are also performed in order to validate these calculations and achieve the certification protocol.
