International audienceBackground: In 2013, an outbreak of edema disease in a population of wild boars (Sus scrofa) took place. This was the first described case as reported worldwide. An enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (presenting the Stx2e and F18 virulence factors) is the main pathogen for this disease in wild boar. The alpha-1-fucosyltransferase gene (FUT1) has been identified as the gene regulating the expression of the receptor for E. coli stx2e F18 bacteria in domestic pigs affected by the disease. The genotypic frequencies of the FUT1 gene in European wild boars have not yet been investigated.
