Conventional x‐ray standing wave (XSW) measurements are performed in a ‘‘nondispersive’’ mode, generating interference fields with matched phases at any wavelength involved. In dispersive setups a mixing of XSW phases leads to broadened, less pronounced XSW yields and rocking curves which are reminiscent of the angular distribution of intensity in the incident x‐ray beam. Nevertheless, even in extreme dispersive setups meaningful XSW measurements are feasible. These will benefit greatly from an increased initial collimation at high‐brilliance, third generation synchrotron sources
