The main goal of this thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of the behavior and evolution of small intermittent coastal lagoons. These systems can be considered as a critical transition zone that link land, freshwater habitats, and the sea. They have been selected due to their important role in the maintenance of the biogeochemical fluxes at a planetary scale, allowing interchanges of mass, momentum and energy between oceans, continents and the atmosphere. The combination of agents at these areas encourages the appearance of gradients; natural systems tend to reply with lots of processes.
