Understanding the production and properties of top quarks is fundamental for testing the quality of the Standard Model (SM) and measuring the Higgs-boson properties. Moreover, the top quark plays an important role in searching for new physics beyond the SM (BSM), and it is a major source of background for many BSM searches. Therefore, it will be crucial to measure the top-quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) production cross section at the upcoming Run II of the LHC, where proton-proton collisions will occur at an unprecedented centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. In this talk we present first studies towards an early measurement of the $t\bar{t}$ production cross section at 13 TeV with the CMS experiment using final states with two leptons
