The aim of this article is to present Joseph Tischner’s notion about community and its relationship with freedom. In his opinion, which differs substantially from the views of liberal thinkers, no one can be truly free in solitude – this value is realized only through the social contacts. Community life requires that its members know how to compromise and engage in dialogue with other people. Then, it is possible responsible care for the common good.
