School playground recess for elementary school children: educational context for participation, games and learning

We start from the consideration of the school playground, as space and time inserted in the school curriculum that allows the insertion in the playful cultures and languages of contemporary childhoods. We understand that children need to be heard and participate in their learning processes at school. Therefore, we carried out the research “with” the children, aiming to identify, describe and understand how the children's participation and learning takes place in the playful experiences in the the school playground time, of the elementary school. For this, we also propose: identifying what children play in the schoolyard; to explain how they use the the school playground time; map the spaces they explore there and present the interactions between children and between them and adults. Qualitative in nature, the research included a bibliographic survey and insertion in the field, in the school playground time. As instruments, we highlight the use of drawings and field diaries: participant observation and semi-structured interviews, conducted with fourteen girls. In the results, we identified how much children enjoy the school playground, but disapprove of the little time available to play. The girls point out that they learn in the playful dynamics, revealing creativity to adapt to the various conditions proposed and interact with their friends, getting closer by sharing snacks, games and toys. In addition to showing a lot of affectivity in interpersonal relationships, the girls still share projections for improve the school playground time aiming to enrich this school space. In this way, we put these learnings and children's participation on the scene, inviting the sensitization of new perspectives to this context that promotes education.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Partimos da consideração de recreio, enquanto espaço e tempo inserido no currículo escolar que oportuniza a inserção nas culturas lúdicas e linguagens das infâncias contemporâneas. Entendemos que as crianças precisam ser escutadas e participarem de seus processos de aprendizagens na escola. Portanto, realizamos a pesquisa “com” as crianças, objetivando identificar, descrever e compreender como ocorre a participação e as aprendizagens das crianças nas experiências lúdicas no recreio, da escola de anos iniciais do ensino fundamental. Para isso, ainda propomos: identificar do que as crianças brincam no pátio escolar; expor de que forma elas utilizam o tempo de recreio; mapear os espaços que elas exploram ali e apresentar as interações entre as crianças e, entre elas e os adultos. De natureza qualitativa, a pesquisa contou com levantamento bibliográfico e a inserção em campo, no pátio de recreio escolar. Como instrumentos, destacamos uso de desenhos e dos diários de campo: de observação participante e das entrevistas semiestruturadas, realizadas com quatorze meninas. Nos resultados, identificamos o quanto as crianças apreciam o recreio, mas desaprovam o pouco tempo disponível para brincar. As meninas apontam que aprendem nas dinâmicas lúdicas, revelando criatividade para se adaptarem as diversas condições propostas e interagem com seus pares infantis, aproximando-se por intermédio do compartilhamento de lanches, brincadeiras e brinquedos. Além de demonstrarem muita afetividade nas relações interpessoais, as meninas ainda compartilham de projeções para o recreio visando enriquecer esse espaço escolar. Deste modo, colocamos em cena essas aprendizagens e a participação das crianças no recreio, convidando a sensibilização de novos olhares para esse contexto que promove educação.CAPES: 88882.426347/2019-0
