Critical success factors identification on the environmental certifications of environmental management system ISO 14001 and forest certification FSC (FM/CoC)

As consequence of the growing environmental concern in the last decades, companies had to get adapted to various demands and pressures. Due to the need to have universally valid and standardized environmental requirements, environmental certifications have emerged. Two of these have a strong presence in companies that own wood as raw material: ISO 14001 and FSC forest certification. Therefore, this research intends to identify the CSF for the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 and FSC certifications for forest management and chain of custody (FM/CoC) in companies that produce or use wood as raw material in Brazil. Through the systematic bibliographic review and the realization of a websurvey with the sending of questionnaires, it was possible to identify the main CSF listed by other authors as well as by the Brazilian companies. In this study, were divided into the stages of Implantation and Certification, and to the Maintenance phase of certification. Resultantly it was possible to identify which CSF are important in each steps for the different companies (ISO 14001 certified companies, companies with FSC certification and with both certifications), it was also possible to identify evidences that some FCS are similar in both stages, but that they also have their own particularities. Finally, it was possible to compare the CSF for the three types of organizations, identifying that the main CSFs are repeated, but not in the level of importance. This indicates the company size and the fact of having more than one type of environmental certification may influence on what is considered critical by them.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Com a crescente preocupação com o meio ambiente nas últimas décadas, as organizações tiveram que adequar-se a várias demandas e pressões vindas de diversas partes. Devido à necessidade de ter requisitos ambientais que fossem válidos e padronizados universalmente, surgiram as certificações ambientais. Duas têm forte presença em organizações que possuem a madeira como matéria-prima, a ISO 14001 e a certificação florestal FSC. Sendo assim, esta pesquisa busca identificar os Fatores Críticos de Sucesso (FCS) para a implantação e manutenção das certificações ISO 14001 e FSC manejo florestal e cadeia de custódia (FM/CoC) em organizações que produzam ou utilizem madeira como matéria-prima no Brasil. Através da revisão bibliográfica sistemática e da realização de um websurvey com o envio de questionários, foi possível identificar os principais FCS elencados por outros autores, assim como pelas organizações brasileiras. Neste estudo eles foram divididos para as etapas de Implantação e Certificação e para a etapa de Manutenção da Certificação. Como resultado foi possível identificar quais FCS são importantes em cada uma das etapas para as diferentes organizações (organizações com certificação ISO 14001, com certificação FSC e com ambas as certificações), também foi possível identificar que há a evidência de que alguns FCS são similares em ambas as etapas, porém que elas também possuem suas próprias particularidades. Por fim, foi possível comparar os FCS para os três tipos de organizações, identificando que os principais FCS se repetem, contudo, não com o mesmo grau de importância.
