The purposes of the investigation were (1) to show a description on the consumption patterns of the can industry households in the Babakan Village of the West Lombok Regency in 1992(2) to understand the influences of household income, household member number, average age of the household members, value of the household wealth, and past consumption level on the current household consumption. (3) To understand whether goods and services consumed were normal, luxurious, or inferior. The data used in the investigation were cross-sectional data on the households. The sample consisted of 100 household-head respondents. The whole estimations were based on an empirical model in the form of double logarithmic model. The investigational results indicated that the average of household income was Rp 70,613.- per month. The average of household expenditure was Rp 64,544.57 per month, consisting of 69.06% for food consumption and 30.94% for non-food consumption. The predicting equation model applied was sufficiently good and the basis of the F-test, indicating that all explanatory variables used exerted significant influences on the household consumption. Groups of paddy/cassava, meat/fish/milk/egg, vegetable/peanut/fruit, other food, clothes, food consumption, non food consumption, and household consurnsptions, were normal goods groups with positive value of income elasticity and less than one, while groups of finished goods/cigarette, fuel/lighting/ furniture, various goods/services, and tax /ceremonial consumption belonged into luxurious groups with positive value of income elasticity and more than one.
