ABSTRACT This research on legal accountability for occurrence of forest fires and the resulting damage is intended to seek answer the following questionsFirst, what is the form of legal accountability that is applicable to offenders involved in cases of forest fires and resulting damage?. Second, in what way do the provisions of national law determine the degree of legal accountability for offenders and the principles of legal accountability in cases forest fires and resulting damage? It is normative-empirical using primary and secondary data. All collected data are then analyzed qualitatively by adopting a normative, descriptive analysis. From the result of this research it is conduded that legal accountability for the occurrence, of forest fires take the form of administrative, civil, and criminal sanction. Degree of legal accountability can be applied to those responsible for a commercial activity involving the use of forest. In the case of forest fires it is recommended that strict liability be applied. In connection with the damage caused by forest fires, legal accountability takes the form of administrative, civil and criminal sanctions. National law determines the degree legal accountability and can be applied to individuals, legal entities, partnership, associations, foundations and/or other organizations.
