ABSTRACT Good body health is influenced by many factors, such as nutrition, environment, habits, and a balance between the presence of free radicals and antioxidant system in the body. Habits could damage health for example smoking. In vitro studies showed that smoked could damage the balancing between free radicals and antioxidant system, so that it could cause oxida-tive damage of the tissues. Oxidative damage of tissues among others could be reflected by lipid peroxidation. Controversy from results of in vivo experiments was still encountered. There were many kinds of cigarette in the market, such as kretek, mild, filter and non-filter cigarettes. The aim of this experiments were to prove that cigarette\u27s smoke which was used to expose test animals could influence plasma lipid peroxidationlevels of plasma lipid peroxidation could be reflected by the plasma Malondialdehyde (MDA). These experiments used 25 white rats (Rattus norvegicus, L) from strain Sprague Dowtey kind male 3-month age which was distributed in 5 group, with 5 members in each group. The five groups consisted of 1 control group without being exposed to cigarette smoke, 4 treatment groups which was exposed to 1 brand of cigarette smoke, during 30 minutes every morning and afternoon for 35 days for each group. The kind of cigarettes, which were used for the exposure, were respectively kretek, filter kretek, mild and white cigarette, one orand for the treatment of 1 group. The results of these experiments showed that periodically exposure of test animal to cigarette smoke increased plasma lipid peroxidation significantly (p < 0,05). There was significant difference (p < 0,05) on severity of lipid peroxidation that emerged from smoke cigarettes smoke used for the exposure the test animals. Smoke of white cigarette showed the lightest effect on plasma lipid peroxidation compared to the other brands of the cigarette used for the exposure of test animals.
