ABSTRACT Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is still a problem in Indonesia. This acute respiratory infection, especially pneumonia, is the main cause of child and under-five years old child mortality. Acute respiratory infection reached the highest among 10 main diseases with 11.8% proportion. In Kotabaru the prevalence in 1997 was 26.9% and 15.6%, and some turned to be pneumonia. Wrong early treatment process is one of the risk factors of death among children as a result of pneumonia. Inappropriate treatment of children with ARI will worsen the disease.
