Idiom dalam Bahasa Indonesia: Idiom in Bahasa Indonesia

An idiom is one of the special expressions found in bahasa Indonesia. The form of the special expressions includes the study of semantics. However, the discussion of this thesis includes the filds of syntax too. This study aims at: (1) describing the syntactic construction or the idiomatic form in bahasa Indonesia(2) describing the category of words and the elements forming the idiomatic expressions in bahasa Indonesia, and (3) describing the kinds of idioms in bahasa Indonesia. From the study carried out, the findings are as follows. 1. The syntactic construction of idiom in bahasa Indonesia can be: (a) a word in the form of word repetition and word cluster, (b) a phrase, (c) a clause, and (d) a sentence. 2. The word category as the elements forming the idiom includes two kinds, that is, (a) an idiom wich its elements forming the same category are three groups, and (b) an idiom which its elements forming a different category are fifteen groups. 3. The kinds of idioms in bahasa Indonesia are two kinds, that is (a) a full idiom, and (b) partial idiom. Key Words: idiom - the syntactic construction - the word category - the kind
