Etika Kesundaan dan Perilaku Ekonomi Pengusaha Kerupuk Muslim Asal Ciamis di Kabupaten Sleman, Yogyakarta=The Sundanese Ethic and The Economic Behaviour of Muslim Kerupuk Entrepreneurs from Ciamis in Sleman District of Y

This research aims to describe in detail the economic behavior and the motivations that drive the muslim kerupuk entrepreneurs from Ciamis, West Java in Sleman District of Yogyakarta. Whether their economic behavior is based on subsistence demand that constitutes an exigency resulting from the effects of globalizing capitalism penetrationor their economic behavior is based on the ideal and sacred values derives from religious values.The result of this study shows that the economic behavior of the kerupuk entrepreneurs could not be separated from their home-town values that are inherent to familial and kinship system. Such systems constitute a crystallization of social and cultural values, including religious ethic that has become a self-identity with the Sundanese structure of community.Their economic behavior shows commercial spirit, such as diligence, thrift, hard-working, resilient endeavor,and skillfulness, and orients to certain religious ritual activities to commercial endeavor. Religious ritual activities such as tahlilan, yasinan, shalawatan and ziarah kubur intersect with the profane or worldly aspect, that is related to the process of making a living or subsistance blessed by God. For them, working hard is a realization of religious teachings. It means that the apprehended pious behavior is the balanced enforcement of ushali (firm intention to pray) and usaha (endeavor). The pious behavior lies in profane aspect rather than in prayer. To this extent, it is not only the favorable area for the growth of working ethos, but also constitutes the ethos itself.
