This thesis discusses about the change of Javanese female dress style during the beginning of the twentieth century till the late colonial period. The main problem of this thesis is how far does the change took place in Yogyakarta influence on the female dress style, and what are the forms of those influ¬ences. It is unavoidable that modern educational institutions have brought about new spirit. At the same time, the indigenous\u27 intellectual spirit in eman¬cipation, progress and the quest for a new identity also emerge.
