Chalara elegans Nag Raj and Kendrick (syn. Thielaviopsis basicola (Berk, and Br.) Ferr.) is a fungal pathogen that causes black root rot disease on many plant species. The ability of virulent and avirulent isolates of C elegans to release nonspecific esterase was studied.
