The easy access to palatable foods is a major contributing factor for compulsive eating and development of food addiction, a disorder closely linked to obesity and binge eating disorder. The concept of food addiction is still controversial but a validated tool for diagnosis, the Yale food addiction scale (YFAS 2.0), is widely accepted. However, the complex multifactorial nature of this disorder and the unknown neurobiological mechanistic correlation explain the current lack of effective treatments.
