Dental pulp represents an easily accessible autologous source of adult stem cell populations. Among them, a population named dental pulp pluripotent-like stem cells (DPPSC) has been isolated from the dental pulp of human third molars and express pluripotency markers such as OCT3/4 and SOX2. DPPSC show pluripotent-like behaviour differentiating in vitro into tissues of the three embryonic layers and being able to form teratoma-like structures. This population also represents a source of adult stem cells without the ethical controversy or safety issues that are associated with the use of embryonic stem cells or induced pluripotent stem cells.
